Piggy Market — the family auction card game of social strategy

Piggy Market — an auctioning game of social strategy

Bid Smart. Bluff Better. Bring Home the Piggies.

The town market is open, and the vendors are selling their piggies in blind auctions. The catch: the highest bidder wins but pays only the second-highest bid — so read your friends, haggle hard, and be the first to hog four piggies from a single vendor.

  • 2–6 players
  • Ages 12+
  • 10–15 min per player
  • 133 cards

Highest Bidder Wins. Second Bid Sets the Price.

Everyone hides bidding tokens in a fist and reveals at once. The biggest bid takes the piggy — but pays only what the runner-up offered. Overbid safely, or bait your friends into overpaying. That’s the whole mind game.

Bids 17 — wins!

Bids 6 — sets the price

…and the winner pays just 6.

Did you know? The manual isn’t kidding around: this is a Vickrey auction, named after William Vickrey, winner of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Economics. Your teenager is doing auction theory and doesn’t know it.

Trades, promises and side-deals are all fair game — and promises aren’t binding. Who goes first? The manual’s rule, not ours: “the player who can make the best pig sound goes first.”
